#0099 Malaysian Rhododendron in Window
With this painting I tried to combine a number of elements: landscape, architecture, still life, and interior/exterior views. I used the Malaysian Rhododendron and it's pot as the axis for all these elements to work off of. I think this painting is also an example of the juxtaposition of organic natural elements and man-made structures. I started the painting by painting in the strong verticals of the windows and the definite diagonals of the windowsill and tables. Getting a sense of how the outside scene would look I then went about the placement of objects. Seeing things for their individuality yet also trying to make everything work as a whole is, I think, what this painting is about. Size: 5'x 5'
