#0117 Battery Park City Series #3

Writing about this picture after Sept. 11th is difficult but to not continue is worse. I started the painting in early July, once again painting on site. What attracted me to the spot was the series of horizontals created by the steps leading up to the plaza. Juxtaposing these horizontals with the verticals of the buildings is the essence of the painting. It is an early morning painting with the area being back lit from the rising sun. The painting was 90 percent complete before the tragedy. Afterwards I spent a few days in by studio finishing it off.
