#0119 Battery Park City Series #2

The idea for the painting came when I saw the modern sculpture on the right. It's juxtaposition with the Statue of Liberty off in the distance I found intriguing. Though they were made in different times with different sensibilities I feel they both have in common the yearning for a higher ideal. The painting was done in the late afternoon/early evening between the hours of 4:00 - 7:30 PM. I wanted the strong shadows cast in the early evening as I felt it would help with the overall sense of openness and wonder I was trying to capture. The work took about six weeks of painting on site in the late afternoon to complete.
